OUR MISSION

diabeteshappens was established in 2007 by Type 1 diabetics Tyler Byrne and Michael Farrell, with the goal of promoting a positive and proactive outlook on life with diabetes. 

We welcome diabetics, their families and friends and those who want to learn more about the condition to take part in the movement that is diabeteshappens. 

We are dedicated to supporting young diabetics by providing them with unique and exciting opportunities. Our primary goal has been raising funds to sponsor kids with type 1 diabetes to attend The Chris Dudley Basketball Camp in Vernonia, OR. The camp is  a week-long, once in a lifetime experience where young diabetics learn how to control their condition while playing an intensive sport with 16-year NBA veteran Chris Dudley. Since 2007, our scholarship donation has sponsored over 15 campers. 

At the same time, our intent is to raise awareness of the disease and make it a larger part of the public discourse. Together, we can help shape society’s perception of diabetes, bring our cause to the forefront, and ultimately effect change.
